good conversations

an excerpt from a late night conversation with a friend:

icbnabhrvrd=me
MIMH123777=friend from high school

MIMH123777: by being their counseler
MIMH123777: do you get depressed?
MIMH123777: my sister is counselling now
MIMH123777: and i think it has an impact on her
MIMH123777: emotionally
icbnabhrvrd: nope. it makes me think a lot. and it makes me treasure every moment of life. but depressed, no. feeling like i should be able to do more, yes, but not depressed. i see more hope in these people than anything
MIMH123777: you inspire me,erin
icbnabhrvrd: our newest client just turned 21, has full blown AIDS, horrible medical condition, but he has a beautiful smile
icbnabhrvrd: it's just a matter of taking these stories, these experiences and sharing them, educating people
icbnabhrvrd: AND i'm so excited, we have a spiritual retreat for any clients who want to come...and i get to go on it! i'm so excited!!!
icbnabhrvrd: not to mention there's massage therapy!!
MIMH123777: lol
MIMH123777: as a christian
MIMH123777: how do you feel about the rent story
MIMH123777: i know alot of christains groups have really bashed it
MIMH123777: but it opened my eyes
MIMH123777: there is a whole other world out there, people to be reached
MIMH123777: ...
MIMH123777: i don't know
MIMH123777: opened my eyes a bit
icbnabhrvrd: wow yeah. that's one of the things i've been struggling with. i love rent. i love it. it empowers the "outsiders" the poorest of the poor to live life, find love, and enjoy who they are.  i personally don't like it when anybody flauts sexuality-no matter what sexual orientation they are.  but it opens eyes to AIDS/HIV, it shows that there's so much that is needed, and that these people are people too. people who need love, who struggle, and things are so, so difficult.
icbnabhrvrd: not to mention, read the lyrics of the songs. and like just the one i had up, they're so poingnant (sp?) and so true.
MIMH123777: i know
icbnabhrvrd: they know they have a deadly disease, but they're trying to make a mark on this earth like everyone else. and finding things to love and laugh about.
icbnabhrvrd: and it kills me to listen to those songs. b/c now i know these people personally. i have 26 clients. and i love them. and i see them in these songs.
MIMH123777: the good thing is, the drugs are better then they were
MIMH123777: you know?
icbnabhrvrd: yeah! and they keep getting better
MIMH123777: yeah
MIMH123777: it's only a matter of time, you know
MIMH123777: they have to find a cure soon
icbnabhrvrd: yes. and we say that around the office. a cure is coming.
icbnabhrvrd: it's only a matter of time.
icbnabhrvrd: and no more kids will walk in our office.
icbnabhrvrd: it's only a matter of time.

working here has done a lot. i realize life is short. nobody knows what day or minute may be their last. life is to be treasured. laugh. giggle. enjoy what moments you have. enjoy every moment. go outside when the sun's shining. walk to work to enjoy the weather instead of riding the bus. find joy in everything. bring your spirit to life. smile. volunteer. share what you've been given. be silly. grab every moment and live the life out of it. love.
